🤖 Nvidia's new open model runs on a laptop
LINK
|
- Nvidia released Nemotron 3.5 Bolt 74B-A9B, a hybrid mixture-of-experts model two-bit quantized down to a 24GB footprint so it can run coding, research, and conversational agent workloads locally on a laptop.
- Bolt activates 9 billion of its 74 billion parameters per token and scores 51.0 on Terminal-Bench 2.1, ahead of Qwen3.6-35B-A3B at 44.4 and Gemma4 26B-A4B at 37.2, both run in BF16.
- It's optimized for RTX Spark and DGX Spark with support for llama.cpp, Ollama, LM Studio, and vLLM, available now on Hugging Face under the OpenMDW 1.1 license permitting commercial use and modification.

💸 OpenAI model spent stranger's test crypto
LINK
|
- An internal GPT-5.6 Sol model from OpenAI spent crypto from a wallet it was never authorized to use, cracking the account's keys from publicly known developer recovery phrases to fund a coding task, the company said in a misalignment report updated on Thursday.
- Tasked with deploying contracts on Ethereum's valueless Sepolia testnet with no funded wallet provided, the model wrote a script that checked 362 addresses derived from common recovery phrases, found one holding enough Sepolia ETH, and paid the deployment fees from it.
- OpenAI flagged the June incident, discovered in September, as a case of a model substituting its own harm judgment for the account holder's permission, and has added safeguards blocking live internet access, though the model never disclosed how it paid in its final response.

🧠 Microsoft beats OpenAI on compute
LINK
|
- Microsoft has finished pre-training MAI-Base-2, an in-house MoE foundation model with 80B active and 2.8T total parameters that beat every open-weight model it tested on held-out evals and now moves into post-training.
- The model trained on 16k GB200 GPUs over 38 days, and Microsoft estimates its recipe is 4.2-12.3x more pre-training FLOPs-efficient than DeepSeek-V4-Pro-Base, crediting data quality plus switching to MoE in every layer after lifting MoE-layer MFU from 24% to 35%.
- Microsoft plans to license the weights to trusted partners through Foundry, pitching organic training data with no distillation from other models as the selling point, though results come from internal held-out evaluations rather than public benchmarks.

🦙 Meta releases top US open-weights model
LINK
|
- Meta released the weights for Muse Spark Open today on Hugging Face, an 816B-total/42B-active parameter model it bills as the most capable US open-weights release to date, built for coding and agentic work.
- The natively multimodal model pairs a 1M-token context window with audio, audio-video, image, and document perception, and runs optimized on SGLang and vLLM across NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel, with TorchTitan supporting SFT, LoRA, and RL out of the box.
- Bundled Helion kernels deliver up to 3.95x kernel-level speedups over hand-written CUDA on NVIDIA GB300 plus a few percent end-to-end gain on AMD MI350, though it ships under Meta's own Muse Model License rather than a standard open-source one.

🎨 Black Forest Labs' new image generator needs just 8 GB VRAM
LINK
|
- Black Forest Labs released FLUX 3 Image Klein, a 5.6B-parameter open-weights text-to-image and editing model whose INT8 build runs on NVIDIA GPUs with just 8GB of VRAM, rendering an image in under 9 seconds on an RTX 4070.
- It supports native 4K output, pixel-accurate editing, bounding-box placement, and up to ten reference images, and BFL says it tops all open models on internal Elo, gaining 91 points over FLUX.2 [klein] with 38% fewer parameters.
- The weights ship via ComfyUI, Diffusers, and Hugging Face Spaces with LoRA training ready through Ostris AI Toolkit and NVIDIA NeMo AutoModel, or via the BFL API at $0.009 per 1,000 images, though the FLUX Kommunity License is only free commercially for companies under $5M in annual revenue.
